FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
With the daily and 7-day average Covid-19 cases continuing to drop, the success of Canada’s vaccine roll-out, and the removal of Covid restrictions by local governments, the GeoNiagara 2021 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is in full preparation for an in-person conference in September. While we are planning for a great in-person conference experience for our delegates, we do understand that travelling to Niagara Falls is not possible for some, and there are community members who prefer to attend the conference while maintaining a low carbon footprint or without incurring travel and hotel costs. To accommodate this portion of the geoscience community, the LOC is pleased to launch virtual delegate registration options. The following virtual packages are available:
EARLY REGISTRATION (up to August 20, 2021)
Virtual Registration: $675
Virtual Registration – Student: $450
REGULAR REGISTRATION (after August 20, 2021)
Early Registration Fees plus $200
If I have already registered for the in-person event, can I switch my delegate registration to virtual?
If you have already registered for the in-person event and need to change your registration to virtual, you can do that until August 20, 2021. Changing an in-person registration to a virtual registration after August 20th is not guaranteed and might be allowed on case-by-case basis, depending on the circumstances. If I register for the virtual event, can I switch my delegate registration to in-person in the event my personal situation changes?
Virtual registrations can be changed to in-person registration up to August 20, 2021. If you wish to change your registration type, please contact email@example.com before the deadline.
If I switch my delegate registration from in-person to virtual, will I receive a refund?
Yes, we will recalculate your delegate fees based on your new type and what you have previously purchased, and will issue a refund for the difference within 2-weeks of you notifying us of the change.
What if the COVID-19 situation worsens or we have an early fourth wave?
Our backup has always been to have a fully virtual conference similar to GeoVirtual in 2020. In the unlikely event there is an early fourth wave and new Government restrictions are put in place, we will convert the conference to a 100% virtual event.
What if I decide to neither attend in-person nor virtually?
If you have already registered for in-person attendance, you may cancel your registration up to and including August 25, 2021. If you have already registered for virtual attendance, you may cancel your registration up to and including August 20, 2021. After those dates, no refunds will be issued. However, if you miss the deadline for a refund, you can transfer your registration to another person up to September 20, 2021.
What will be available for virtual delegates?
Virtual attendees will have webinar style access to:
- Plenary Sessions
- Keynote Presentations
- Technical Sessions
- Submitting questions to the presenters for Technical Sessions
- Networking with other virtual attendees
The scope of services for virtual delegates depends on the number of registrations. If a minimum threshold is achieved, there might be opportunity for additional virtual features (i.e. live broadcast of the CGS/IAH-CNC Awards Banquet, and sponsor/exhibitor outreach).
I am a presenter and I already purchased a one-day or full conference pass, but will only be able to present virtually. What should I do?
Similar to Q2, you must contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org before August 20, 2021. If you have already purchased a full in-person conference, you will receive a partial refund. If you are attending virtually, your pre-recorded presentation will be played at the event during your assigned Technical Session. Your pre-recorded presentation must be provided by end of August. Further details will be provided to all authors.
